Check out what the Chicago Reader had to say about my new album!
Thursday I and Natalie Scharf and Natalie Lande will debut our new group “Natalie Wood Plays Roland Kirk” (I’m the wood) at the Constellation Chicago at 3111 N Western Avenue at 9:30 PM. There is a $10 Cover. See you there.
We are excited to play with our great rhythm section; Brian O’Hern – piano, Matt Furguson – bass, and Mike Schlick – drums ! We are playing some great tunes like No Tonic Press, Black and Crazy Blues, A Handful of Fives and Stompin’ Grounds.
I’ll be performing 2 shows on Tues. April 7 and 14 at the Jazz Showcase in a tribute to Oscar Brown jr.
Women in Jazz is a weekly series in the month of March in Oak Park. It was so wonderful to be able to showcase my own work, Goofy Blues, Pessoa, Salty Waltz and to perform Kelly Brand’s Fall Spring, Yellow Blues, and Bitter Blew the Winds of March, as it doesn’t happen that often. So often when performing, especially in clubs and restaurants, we showcase jazz standards. The opportunity to be able to highlight our own work as women was something special. Thanks to the Linda Solitaire of True Muse productions and Open Door Theatre.
At the Jazz Showcase, for the Chi-town Jazz Fest that was for Catholic Charities. John Moulder guitarist and priest started this fest a few years ago and we donate our time and the proceeds go to Catholic Charities. Always a worthy event.
What a great set for an enthusiastic audience of jazz lovers. We played my original tune Two Buck Chuck, however, the drinks at the Showcase were $10 bucks. 🙂
It is a shame that SHE only gets a chance a couple times a year to perform. Such a group of talented women!
Ladies let’s do this more often!
Had a blast playing with Caroline and the guys for four nights and what a treat. Here is a couple clips, enjoy!
