Had a ball in Estonia at the Juu Jääb festival in July !

Festivali Juu Jääb Kava 2015

I really enjoyed playing in Estonia at the beginning of July. They have a real sweet little jazz fest on Muhumaa island. Very beautiful place. I played a few tunes with a wonderful band from Hamburg , Germany called Gabriel Coburger and Quintet Jean Paul. Also got to play with some great players from Sweden , Hakan Lewin ( alto sax ) , Aldo Meristo ( Estonia – piano ) , Wade Mikkola ( Finland – bass ) and Thomas Tornroos ( Finland – drums )

Honey West shows up at the Showcase !

Here I am performing as my alter ego , Honey West, in Morris Gearring’s show ” Something About Oscar ”

a tribute to the late great Oscar Brown jr. , with Calvin Koko Brunson, Kwame Steve Cobb, Harrison Bankhead, and Enoch Williamson.  Morris is taking his wonderful show to NYC in a few weeks. I hope they have sold out shows and much success !

Women in Jazz

juli_women_jazz_oak_park1Women in Jazz is a weekly series in the month of March in Oak Park. It was so wonderful to be able to showcase my own work, Goofy Blues, Pessoa, Salty Waltz and to perform Kelly Brand’s Fall Spring, Yellow Blues, and Bitter Blew the Winds of March, as it doesn’t happen that often. So often when performing, especially in clubs and restaurants, we showcase jazz standards. The opportunity to be able to highlight our own work as women was something specjuli_women_jazz_oak_park2ial. Thanks to the Linda Solitaire of True Muse productions and Open Door Theatre.

SHE- An all Female Jazz Band

SHE_Jazz_ShowcaseLed by Bobbi Wilsyn, vocalist, Audrey Morrison trombone, Juli Wood sax, Kelly Brand piano, Katie Ernst, bass, Sarah Allen Drums.

At the Jazz Showcase, for the Chi-town Jazz Fest that was for Catholic Charities. John Moulder guitarist and priest started this fest a few years ago and we donate our time and the proceeds go to Catholic Charities. Always a worthy event.

What a great set for an enthusiastic audience of jazz lovers. We played my original tune Two Buck Chuck, however, the drinks at the Showcase were $10 bucks. 🙂

It is a shame that SHE only gets a chance a couple times a year to perform. Such a group of talented women!

Ladies let’s do this more often!
